My teaching philosophy stems from my many experiences as a student. I strive to create an environment conducive to learning and exploration. I believe that every person can master any subject and that their success depends on the combined actions of their instructor and learner. I think that my relationship with the students, my attitude, the way I design my courses/lesson, the level of accessibility, and the support I provide are all vitally important for my learner's success. I believe that all students need someone to be their biggest cheerleader and take the time to explain concepts further or in different ways when they see the frustration or disappointment in one of their students' faces.
My goals are always to leave feeling confident and empowered by my lessons. To be the best I can be by keeping up on the latest scientific articles/studies from scholarly sources, seminars, and professional growth continuing education to teach what is relevant. To get to know who my students are and to show them that I care about them.
As a private tutor for over seven years, I have seen the differences that a positive attitude, encouragement, and personalization can make. Often my students come to me unhappy and reluctant. After my first lesson, I establish a relationship by doing an icebreaker questionnaire; they see how I genuinely care if they understand the material or not. Mixed with my enthusiastic, supportive, and engaging attitude, these things all create the kind of environment where learning flourishes.
